Quickie note on compaq deskpro 6000 series We were trying to install solaris 7 on a compaq deskpro computer. I'd seen reports on the web about successful installs for solaris 2.6.So I was irrirated when it wasn't going well for solaris 7. It would not see the internal IDE drive, or CDROM. I ended up having to do the following: 1. download the solaris 8/99 boot diskette (DCA floppy) 2. it would then recognize the CDROM, so I could then boot off cdrom and do the install to disk 3. After reboot, it STILL CANNOT BOOT FROM DISK. You have to boot off floppy again, then select the IDE drive to continue loading solaris 4. You then get to grab MU3, and patch your new solaris install, so you can actually boot directly into it :-) Unfortunately, its getting a bit complicatd these days to get MUs, aka "Maintainance updates". I favor getting a specific MU over a "patch cluster", because that matches a specific release of solaris. MU3 matches what is on the solaris 7 8/99 release. Once you run the solregister program ("solregis", in /usr/dt/bin, i think) it will create a username for you on "solarisolve. You should then be able to get into http://access1.sun.com/solarissolve/ and get the latest MU for solaris 7. which is actually at http://access1.sun.com/Products/solaris/mu/mu.html
