How RH Linux Boots :: Power On, Boot PROM & FLASH

At POR, CPU boots out of known address in Boot PROM.

Boot PROM written by mobo manufacturer; must know the architecture.

Boot PROM will perform a primitive hardware checkout and initialization.

Where options are available, decisions are pulled out of FLASH.

Boot PROM uses default video and keyboard parameters to allow operator configuration.

Configuration parameters may be stored in FLASH.

One config param:  the boot device!
